BMW’s 2026 M2 Racing car, shown here in full track trim, blends lightweight engineering with motorsport-grade performance for global competition.

The 2026 BMW M2 Racing is BMW M Motorsport’s newest entry-level race car, designed to replace the M235i Racing, M240i Racing, and M2 CS Racing. It’s built on the G87-generation M2 platform but reimagined for the track with a focus on affordability, durability, and performance.

Key Highlights

  • Engine: 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder (B48 base), producing 313 hp and 400 Nm of torque

  • Transmission: 7-speed ZF automatic with BMW Motorsport software and mechanical differential lock

  • Top Speed: Over 270 km/h

  • Weight: 1,498 kg

  • Price: Starts at €98,000 (excluding options and taxes)

Race-Ready Features

  • Safety: FIA-compliant welded roll cage, quick-release locks on hood and trunk

  • Suspension: Motorsport-specific KW shock absorbers and adjustable stabilizers

  • Brakes: BMW M Compound discs with motorsport-specific pads and cooling system

  • Wheels: 18-inch forged rims with Goodyear racing tires

  • Body: Carbon fiber roof, Makrolon polycarbonate windows, optional rear wing

Where It’ll Compete

BMW developed the M2 Racing for a wide range of international series, including:

  • ADAC 24h Nürburgring

  • TC America & TC France

  • 24H Series

  • Dutch Supercar Challenge

  • BMW & Mini Racing (Japan)

Why It Matters

BMW’s decision to use a smaller 4-cylinder engine instead of the road car’s inline-six is all about lower running costs and reduced weight, making it more accessible for customer racing teams. It’s a nod to the legendary E30 M3, which dominated touring car racing with a similar philosophy.
